Ingredients for four people | |
white-fleshed fish | 600 g |
Medium onion | 2 |
Garlic cloves | 8 |
Fresh coriander | 350 g |
Fresh fenugreek | 50 g |
tamarind paste | 4 tbsp |
Turmeric | 2 tsp |
Black pepper | 2 tsp |
Salt | 3 tsp |
Vegetable oil | 6 tbsp |
Ghalieh Mahi Instructions
Step 1
Combine tamarind paste with a glass of boiling water and set aside. Combine one tsp black pepper, one tsp turmeric, two tsp salt, and one tbsp vegetable oil and rub on the pieces of fish meat.
Step 2
After 15 minutes, put a pan on medium heat and add three tablespoons of oil. Once the oil is hot, add the fish pieces.
Step 3
Fry each side of the Pieces of fish for 7 minutes, then take them from the pan and set them aside.
Step 4
Finely chop the coriander and fenugreek, peel the onions and garlic cloves and chop finely.
Step 5
Put a pot over medium heat and add the rest of the oil, then wait for the oil to heat up.
Step 6
Add onion and sauté for 3 minutes, then add garlic with remaining turmeric and black pepper and sauté for another 2 minutes.
Step 7
Add the coriander, fenugreek, and sauté for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain the tamarind sauce and add to the pot.
Step 8
Add two glasses of boiling water and put the lid on the pot. After 30 minutes, add the fish pieces and let the stew cook for another 30 minutes.
Step 9
Finally, add the remaining salt and let half a glass of water remain in the pot, then serve the Ghalieh Mahi with rice.

better color
If you want your stew to have better color, after sautéing the onion and garlic, add a tablespoon of tomato paste to the pan and sauté for 3 minutes.
