Izgara Kofte Recipe

Today we are making Izgara Kofte, or grilled lamb kofta, one of the popular street foods in Turkey. You can put this dish together quickly. These delicious meatballs are made with seasoned minced lamb. This wholesome and nutritious dish will soon become your family favorite for dinner meals.

Ingredients for four people
Lamb1 kg
Onion1
Garlic3
Bell pepper1
Serrano pepper2
Ground red pepper½ tsp
Cumin¼ tsp
Sumac¼ tsp
Ginger powder1 tsp
Salt1 tsp
Cilantro1 cup

Izgara Kofte Recipe

Step 1

Cut the meat into 5 centimeters chunks and grind them with a grinder. Choose a large bowl and add minced meat to it.

Step 2

Peel and wash the onion and garlic. Grate them finely and drain the juice out of them. Add them to the minced meat.

Step 3

Wash cilantro a couple of times until it is clean from dust. Then put them in a colander to drain the excess water. Now transfer them to a tray and chop them finely. Add them to the meat bowl.

Step 4

Wash and carefully remove seeds and membranes from the bell peppers. Then coarsely chop them. Add them to the meat.

Step 5

Chop serrano pepper and add them to the meat along with the ground red pepper, cumin, sumac, ginger powder, and salt.

Step 6

Mix the ingredients well with your hands till they are combined and uniform.

Step 7

Wet the palm of your hand with water. Take a little bit of the mixture, about the size of a small tangerine, and shape it into a round or cone shape with your hands.

Step 8

Grill the Koftas in barbeque for about 6 to 8 minutes until it gets browning on the surface. You can also sauté them on an oiled coated pan; each side should be sautéed for about 5 to 7 minutes on heat until they are thoroughly cooked inside and crispy outside. If you want to avoid fried cooks, you can bake them in a 175 Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit oven for about 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 9

Finally, plate the meatballs in your desired dish. You can serve this crispy and delicious Izgara Kofte with rice or bread and yogurt dressing and garnish them with some parsley leaves. Enjoy your meal!
