Potato Churros Recipe
Scrub potatoes well and remove any eyes and peel them. Chop them in a cubic manner.
Place the potatoes in a pot filled with water and bring the water to a boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer the potatoes uncovered for 45 minutes. Potatoes are ready when they are fork tender.
Grate the boiled potatoes in a mixing bowl. You can mash the potatoes with a fork, a masher, or even a potato ricer to get a more uniform texture.
Add the flour, egg, salt, ground black pepper, turmeric, thyme, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder to the potatoes. Stir the ingredients to form it into a dough. Now you can taste the seasoning and add more if needed.
When the potato mixture gets a smooth texture, add it to a piping bag with your desired nozzle. Then pipe the potato into a tray. You can use a knife to separate the churros from the nozzle.
Now freeze the churros for an hour. This will help them to firm up.
For preparing the sauce, Pour the milk into a suitable pot. Add the flour to the cold milk and stir until everything is integrated and you’ve stirred out most of the clumps.
Put the milk on medium heat. Bring it to a light simmer and stir regularly to avoid burning the nutrients. Then add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to the sauce and stir until it dissolves in milk.
Let the sauce cook and thicken a little bit. Then add the gouda cheese. Let it melt and make an integrated sauce. Pour the sauce into a suitable bowl.
Now fill a pot with oil to cover the churros and put it on heat. You should heat the oil to 175 Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit degree. You can check the temperature by placing a chopstick on the oil, and if it fizzes up after about 5 to 10 seconds, the heat is good.
Carefully add the potato churros into the oil. Slightly agitate them during frying. Once it gets golden brown and crispy on both sides, put them on a rack so they can drain. Put them in your desired dish, add a pinch of ground pepper and salt, and serve them with the sauce. Enjoy your meal!
